About the Prize


The Man Asian Literary Prize 2007

The first Man Asian Literary Prize will be awarded in the Autumn of 2007 for an "Asian novel unpublished in English" and each twelve months thereafter.

The objectives of creating the Asian Literary Prize are:

  • To bring exciting new Asian authors to the attention of the world literary community;

  • To facilitate publishing and translation of Asian literature in and into English; and

  • To highlight Asia's developing role in world literature.


  • The Prize was initiated by the Hong Kong International Literary Festival Limited with financial support from Man Group plc.


    Key dates

  • Submissions in English will be accepted electronically online from 1 November 2006 to 31 March 2007.

  • A long list of up to 20 candidates will be announced in mid-July 2007.

  • The short list of five candidates will be announced in the third week of October 2007.

  • The winner will be announced on 10 November 2007.



  • Award amounts

  • US$10,000 to the winning author;

  • US$3,000 to translator (if any and if eligible, details below) of the winning work;

  • A significant amount at the discretion of the Prize administrators to purchase copies of the work once published, for distribution to regional libraries, schools and other institutions.
