About the Prize
Man Asian Literary Prize is an annual award for an "Asian novel unpublished in English". The Prize was launched in 2007 and is now in its third year.
The objectives of the Asian Literary Prize are:
To bring exciting new Asian authors to the attention of the world literary community;
To facilitate publishing and translation of Asian literature in and into English; and
To highlight Asia's developing role in world literature.
The Prize was initiated by the Hong Kong International Literary Festival Limited with financial support from Man Group plc. It is administered by representatives from the Man Hong Kong International Literary Festival, the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Key dates for the 2009 Prize
Submissions in English will be accepted electronically online from 19 January 2009 until 31 March 2009.
A long list will be announced in approximately mid-July 2009.
A short list of five candidates will be announced in approximately mid-October 2009.
The winner will be announced in approximately the last week of November 2009.
Award amounts
US$10,000 to the winning author;
US$3,000 to translator (if any and if eligible) of the winning work.
The Administrative Committee of the Prize consists of Prof. Christopher Hutton (Professor of
English, The University of Hong Kong), Prof. David Parker (Professor of English , The Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Ms Sue Gourlay
(Administrator).
The Prize is supported financially by Man Group plc.
